We are exceptionally proud of our Sixth Form provision which we truly believe offers something for everyone.
At Sprowston, we see students as individuals with different skills, talents and interests. It is important to us that we build a curriculum model that recognises this and offers bespoke routes for everyone. At the same time, we believe passionately that we need to prepare students for the competitive world of work. Whilst academic outcomes are important and central to what we do, we also believe that students need to have opportunities to develop personally, developing skills of independence, resilience and confidence. For this reason our programme of enrichment and careers guidance is integral to our approach.
Our Sixth Form provision is underpinned by strong teaching and learning. Our specialist teachers are experts in their areas and able to develop very effective and purposeful relationships with the students that they teach. Teachers have high expectations of learners and will support them to become confident and skilled in their chosen area of study. We recognise that the transition to Sixth Form life can be challenging as course demands increase and there is more onus on independent skills. For this reason, we are committed to high level, personalised pastoral care which will range from a personal tutor to specialist mental health support where this is required. Our Head of Sixth Form is well supported by a Second in Sixth Form and a Pastoral Lead. The latter is a non-teaching post which allows flexibility to meet the needs of students as they arise.
We want our Sixth Form to be at the heart of our school. My vision is that Sixth Formers are seen as role models to younger students and are key in leading change in school. We are a school with a heart, and we have a commitment to supporting charity events and the wider community. I believe that our Sixth Form can make a huge contribution in this area, changing lives whilst also demonstrating the skills and talents that will increase their self-confidence, interpersonal skills and employability.
This is a really exciting time to become a Sixth Former at Sprowston, and we very much hope you take this journey with us.
Welcome to Sprowston Community Academy Sixth Form. You may be a current student at Sprowston or considering joining us; either way we welcome your application.
The purpose of the prospectus is to give you a clear idea of the curriculum choices we offer and to explain the experience you will receive by joining Sprowston Community Academy Sixth Form to study beyond your GCSEs.
My aspiration, as Head of Sixth Form, is to ensure that young people across the community enjoy access to a truly inspirational, inclusive and innovative curriculum, including a mix of vocational and academic Post-16 education choices. We will do this by creating a culture that demands and supports excellence, focused on developing successful study habits in students whilst using the expertise of our teachers. We are committed to providing a platform through which students can thrive and excel, enabling them to progress with confidence and to ‘open doors’ to the next stage of their lives. I simply believe that with hard work, a supportive culture and great teaching, all students can achieve. It is these foundations that underpin our ethos in the Sixth Form; together they allow students to achieve academic and vocational qualifications which support their progression to both world class universities and careers of choice and significance.
Our Open Evening and Taster Days offer opportunities to discuss course content with teachers and current students prior to applying for a place. We are also happy to answer questions about applications and admissions at any point. Please contact the school directly.
At Sprowston Community Academy Sixth Form, we understand that there are no shortcuts or easy fixes. Our aim is to ensure that students do not feel like they are just another number within a classroom. We try to provide the best all round education possible in a supportive and success-driven environment. As well as this, outside the normal classroom, there are some very exciting projects that our current Sixth Formers take the lead role in developing. These include the Allotment Project and the National Citizenship Service Award, both of which have been extremely popular additions, providing opportunities for our young people to develop personally and professionally. For your part, you just need to be enthusiastic about your learning, hardworking and keen to get involved in the classroom and beyond.
We welcome your application and look forward to you joining us.
