As a school, we take all necessary steps to keep children healthy, safe and secure.

Our key safeguarding responsibilities are:

  • Safeguarding children
  • Ensuring the suitability of adults who have contact with children
  • Promoting good health
  • Managing behaviour
  • Maintaining records, policies and procedures

As part of these steps we carry out a Safeguarding Curriculum Audit which we have attached below.

At Sprowston Community Academy we work in partnership with Norfolk Constabulary and Norfolk Children's Services to identify and provide appropriate support to students who have experienced domestic violence in their household; this scheme is called Operation Encompass.

In order to achieve this, Norfolk Multi-agency Safeguarding Hub will share police information of all domestic incidents where one of our students has been present with the Designated Safeguarding Lead(s).

On receipt of any information, the Designated Safeguarding Lead will decide on the appropriate support the student requires, this could be silent or overt.

All information sharing and resulting actions will be undertaken in accordance with the 'Norfolk Joint Agency Protocol for Domestic Abuse - Notifications to Schools'.

We will record this information and store this information in accordance with the schools record keeping procedures, outlined in our safeguarding policy.

This statutory guidance is for: governing bodies and proprietors, headteachers, teachers and education staff.

It sets out what schools and colleges must do to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people under the age of 18.

This is advice from the Department for Education. All pupils will benefit from learning and developing in a well ordered school environment that fosters and rewards good behaviour and sanctions poor and disruptive behaviour. Our behaviour and discipline in schools advice sets out the powers and duties for school staff and approaches they can adopt to manage behaviour in their schools. It also says that schools should consider whether continuing disruptive behaviour might be a result of unmet educational or other needs.
