Requirements of the 16-19 Study Programme

How do we meet the requirements of the 16 – 19 study programme?

At Sprowston, we see students as individuals with different skills, talents and interests. Our core aim is to provide our students with a varied curriculum model that recognises this and offers bespoke routes for everyone. At the same time, we believe passionately that we need to prepare students for the competitive world of work. Sprowston Sixth Form consists of a mixture of both applied and academic qualifications. We mainly offer A Levels but also offer a range of BTECs. In addition to this our students can opt to take an EPQ or Core mathematics qualification.

If students do not hold a GCSE grade 4 in mathematics or English, they are allocated time as part of their study programme. This includes small group tuition with subject specialist teachers, additional revision classes and access to online subscriptions to aid their independent learning.

Students in our sixth form are expected to take part in a number of activities which provide them with the opportunity to develop a range of “soft skills”. We offer an enrichment programme which enables students to:

  • be students ambassadors - helping out in key stage 3 lessons or in a department to get experience
  • learn life skills - such as changing a tyre, public speaking and cooking on a budget
  • Plan charity events - leading whole school charity events whilst learning about budgeting, organisation and working in a team

Students are in form time for twenty minutes each day and follow a comprehensive programme which includes:

  • How to transition to sixth form effectively
  • Study skills
  • Planning for your future
  • Advice and support on applying for university/apprenticeships/jobs
  • One-to-one intervention with form tutors
  • Discussing a range of important issues and developing key skills
  • Team building activities and competitions
  • Careers advice including visits from local employers
  • All students receive careers and future planning support for
  • Virtual or physical work experience
