Virtues are ‘traits of excellence’ that we want all our students to embody in their day to day actions in and outside of school. These can be seen as ways of thinking, feeling and acting that we all habitually do, that are good for others and good for ourselves. At Sprowston Community Academy, these align to our four pillars of: academic virtues, performance virtues, moral virtues and community virtues.

We place value on these virtues because we believe a school full of character and virtue will be a place where students feel valued, important and belonging. Daily acts of each virtue will create positive personal strengths that improve both the academic success of students, and the positive impact they have on the communities around them.

Our virtues are built through our character curriculum, connecting the language and actions of each virtue to form time, assemblies, lessons, and social times. Character education therefore focuses on instilling virtues that allow individual students and communities to thrive. With the language and actions of each virtue modelled by all staff, students will also be celebrated for demonstrating these virtues, and shown how to celebrate them when seen in others.

Virtues and Rewards

Students will be awarded ‘Virtue Points’ both inside and outside of lessons. These align to the virtues and actions that we believe embody the ‘best version’ of ourselves and our community. Virtue points can be tracked through the class charts app.

Every week, the top 10 students for each virtue (Academic, Performance, Community, Moral), in each year group will be given a postcard in their form folders. The top student for each virtue that week will also be awarded the ‘Virtuous Student of the Week’ certificate during a special event each Friday.
